8 Stoner Movies To Watch While High

By Jessica Todmann

Movie night is a popular pastime and thankfully, one that can still be enjoyed at home with quarantine orders still in effect.

What better way to take in the cinema than by doing so with a joint in hand? We can scratch the popcorn and soda for this- at least, until the munchies set in.

We want to make sure you enjoy the ride, so here are eight movies to watch while high:

There’s Something About Mary

stoner movies

About ten minutes into this film and you’ll already be crying your eyes out!

Ted, the gullible and ever-unassuming “nice guy” is elated to take his dream girl Mary to the prom.

Ted shows up expecting a great night out, but that hope dies once his scrotum gets stuck in his pants zipper. Ted is sent to the emergency room and left with a lifelong emotional scar.

The rest of the movie follows Ted as an adult as he goes through a series of mishaps to find and reconnect with Mary.

For those of you who tend to think about “the one that got away” while high, this movie might prompt you to google search an ex, but you’ll be too busy laughing to type.

American Pie

If you love baked goods just know that you can do more than eat them. At least for the main character Jim.

He is so awkwardly naive that after hearing his friends describe what third base feels like he decides to go home and make love to a freshly made apple pie. That may seem creepy enough, until his father walks in on him!

This movie will make you wish high school was this fun for you and realize that food and sex should always be used in the same sentence.

American Pie follows four high school seniors determined to lose their virginities and all the humiliating things they do to get there.

Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle

stoner movies

White Castle is always a great option when the munchies hit, I just hope you don’t have as much trouble as these characters do with finding it.

Harold and Kumar are best friends and roommates with an affinity for smoking pot. After being seduced by a White Castle commercial, the two spend their night searching for the nearest location.

Fortunately, you can enjoy the highs and lows of your own smoke session in the safety of your home. While these guys had to endure a car robbery, jail time and a run in with a cheetah in order to get fed, for you, food delivery is only an app away.

Friday

stoner movies

Friday is an inspirational tale of sorts for all the underachieving potheads.

Rapper Ice Cube plays Craig who, after getting fired from his job, decides to sit on his porch all day and smoke marijuana with his flamboyant friend Smokey.

Craig’s a low-key guy who gets pulled into several hilariously dangerous shenanigans in order to help save Smokey from getting killed by a local drug dealer. At the end of the movie, an act of courage earns Craig the respect of his family and peers, as well as a date with Debbie, his long-time crush.

Who said sitting around getting high all day would get you nowhere?

The Matrix

stoner movies

The red pill or the blue pill? If you want to pair your cannabis-induced reality with one created by machines, then The Matrix is it!

A skilled hacker named Neo crosses paths with a mysterious man named Morpehus on the internet. Unbeknownst to Neo, there’s a band of cyber agents eager to keep him from doing so.

Morpheus ends up saving Neo and takes it a step further by offering him two pills- one that will change his world and one that will leave him stuck in the one he’s always known.

After Neo opts for a life change, he gets released from a simulated existence created by machines and computerized networks to keep human beings under their control.

This movie offers 136 minutes of high-action storytelling with a ton of special effects mastery to keep your stoner brain on its toes.

Exam

best stoner movie

If you tend to suffer bouts of anxiety while smoking, The Exam will keep you intrigued without raising your blood pressure.

This British film may, however, have you rethinking any interviews you have coming up. Eight job candidates show up to a windowless room for an exam that they must complete within 80 minutes.

The company rep tells them that they must answer one question and that there is only one answer for it. At each desk there’s a sheet of paper with their candidate number on it and a pencil. They cannot speak to the staff, leave the room or soil their candidate paper, less they become disqualified from the assessment.

Their desire to win pushes them to extremes until one lucky candidate figures out the riddle and earns the coveted role.

This movie explores what people are willing to do to get ahead and why.

Psycho

best stoner movies

Speaking of what you’d be willing to do, let’s hope stealing from your employer isn’t one of them.

Karma is a bitch. At least for Marion, who finds herself in the clutches of a highly disturbed motel owner after she decides to run away with company funds.

As a result, Marion disappears and puts the lives of her loved ones in danger when they set out searching for her.

This movie is a classic thriller by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock, mentioned often as one of the greatest films of all time. That infamous shower scene and finding out who really killed Marion at the end may blow your high a bit.

If I were you, I’d check around my apartment a few times to make sure there weren’t any hidden peep holes.

Alice in Wonderland

stoner movies

Can you really have a good smoke session without throwing some cartoons into the mix?

In Alice in Wonderland, we follow little Alice down the rabbit hole and into a supercharged dimension unrestrained by normalcy.

She discovers that in Wonderland, rabbits really don’t like to be late, birthday parties have nothing on “Happy un-Birthday” festivities and a deck of playing cards can also double as an army.

You’ll have so much fun watching this movie high, you won’t even notice how crappy you rolled that last blunt.

While variety helps to keep the stoner mind stimulated, I think these movies are entertaining enough to watch even if you’re not high. I’ll never argue that doing so while stoned isn’t the better option though.
