A Handy Guide For Microdosing Weed

Submitted By: Jessica DaCosta of Northern Wellness

Hey There, Mama!

Are you ready to learn some shit that’s life-changing? Cause that’s what microdosing weed is, ladies. It’s life-changing.

Imagine feeling present, alert, and focused all day. Imagine facing your day with an unstoppable positive attitude and a sense of ease.

Imagine you look up from your work and take a moment to appreciate the sound and scent of the rain falling outside. You feel the gentle breeze. You breathe. That last part was me. I’m microdosing cannabis right now and I feel amazing!

Ahem. Ok so I start my 12-week coaching program with a personalized cannabis guide, and this is the information that I base it on.

It really helps the transformational process along by helping people feel better right away. When you feel good, it’s much easier to commit to and follow through with change.

Now, there’s a ton of information out there so I’m going to keep this concise. I’ll start with ingestion methods, then we’ll go over check-ins, dosing, and finally, balancing cannabinoids.

Ingestion Methods For Microdosing Weed

I prefer tinctures. They are fast-acting, long-lasting, and easy to dose accurately. They also have more consistent results, unlike say, an edible, which could give the same person completely different experiences on different days. And edibles are very slow acting, which makes them difficult to dose.

Tinctures are also easy to use, discreet, and you can customize your CBD:THC ratio very simply.

That said, tinctures aren’t for everyone. You can ingest any way you like. The point is: less is more. Cannabis works wonders in tiny doses, and it’s very easy to overdo it. So when we begin, we do check ins.

Check ins

This is an easy way to find the dose that’s right for you. I recommend doing this for 3-4 days at least, but it might take a bit longer to calibrate.

The idea is to keep a journal (or a note stuck to the fridge, like me) and write down how you feel. The first check in is before you ingest. How are you feeling? Are you tense? Are you hungry? How does your body feel? Are you anxious? Are you excited? Write it all down.

Next you ingest. You start with the smallest dose, unless you have a good idea of what your tolerance looks like. Take a tiny bit, then wait.

If you smoke or vape, wait 15 minutes. If you’re using a sublingual tincture, I’d wait maybe 25. Then do another check in. In what ways do you feel different? If you feel no difference wait 5 more minutes and take another tiny dose.

Then check in again in 1,2, and 3 hours. (Or whenever you notice the feeling waning) And try to notice when you no longer feel the effects. Write that time down, too.

We’re checking in for two reasons: we are finding the right dose, and noticing how far apart your doses should be.

Dosing/Balancing

A good place to start for someone new to cannabis might be 2.5mg of THC, 3 times a day. The dose for CBD is the same to start, 2.5mg, 3 times/day.

A lot of people really enjoy a 1:1 ratio of THC to CBD. You’ll want to experiment to find your perfect dose. It may take some time to really dial it in, but you’ll be glad you did!

Balancing cannabinoids is a great way to customize your experience. You do this by adjusting the amount of CBD. CBD is great. The first time I tried using CBD I followed the dose on the bottle, which was 24mg, and I felt really wired.

It wasn’t a good experience at all. I tried again with a much smaller dose and am honestly amazed at how much better I feel. I’m calm and alert, and I don’t get the munchies!

CBD lessens the psychoactivity of THC, making it perfect for dialing in your dose for daytime use! It’s also an appetite suppressant and helps protect against memory loss. Could we ask for anything more?

Here’s the takeaway. The experience you have with cannabis can vary drastically. When people have bad experiences it’s usually because they’ve taken too much. When in doubt, take less.

That’s it! Go forth and feel wonderful!
