A new study concludes that PlusCBD™ Oil supplements can help improve sleep, support reduction in appetite and help enhance quality of life in humans.

The Center for Applied Health Sciences’s (CAHS) main goal for this study:

“The purpose of this placebo-controlled, double-blind study was to determine the effects of a commercially available (i.e. dietary supplement) Hemp Oil Extract product on various markers of physical and mental stress resilience, and perceived recovery from normal daily physical and mental stress.”

And who doesn’t feel that dark cloud of stress, anxiety and drag get bigger when they’re tossing and turning all night?

Did you know sleep deficiency is a pretty common health issue in the United States? I mean duh, with social media, bosses that don’t understand you have a life and the new Bob Dylan documentary on Netflix – how can anyone doze off and dream anymore?

Forty percent of adults report accidentally falling asleep during the day at least once a month, and about 50 to 70 million Americans suffer from chronic sleep disorders, according to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute

“According to the National Institutes of Health, more than one-third of adults report daytime sleepiness so severe that it interferes with work, driving, and social functioning at least a few days each month,” said Joseph Dowling, Chief Executive Officer of CV Sciences, in this press release. “As the industry leader, we are committed to advancing research and education to help more and more consumers realize the many benefits of hemp CBD supplementation.”

Like a broken record we love to play, CBD research continues to find benefits in the cannabis product for chronic diseases, which then leads to better overall health and wellness!

So what exactly did researchers at CAHS find? Miss Marijuana will break it down for you Bill Nye style so you can get back to your regularly scheduled program or go buy some CBD products!

Method

The scientists behind this study utilized a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind approach – I know, confusing.

Essentially all of this jargon just means that neither the experimenters nor the subjects knew which subjects were in the test group (no placebo) or the control group (placebo).

Sixty-five overweight, but healthy men and women were prescribed either a Hemp Oil Extract soft gel supplement from PlusCBD™ Oil or a placebo soft gel every day for six weeks. It’s important to note that the CBD product came from a hemp plant, and for curiosity’s sake, the placebo was just olive oil.

Additionally, each participant was asked to walk five days per week for 30 minutes, while their diet stayed the same.

The scientists also tested for outcome variables before and after the experiment began. They tested for stress resilience, a 14-item panel of psychometric parameters, heart-rate, plasma chromogranin A, body composition mass, bone mineral content and other general markers of health, like blood pressure.

Ideally, they were monitoring for changes from participants’ baseline tests before the supplements were administered.

Results

According to the charts provided here, the test participants, or those who received the Hemp Oil Extract soft gel, revealed significant improvements in sleep quality, decreases in appetite and an overall an increased pleasure in life.

“Collectively, these seminal findings in healthy subjects demonstrate that PlusCBD™ Oil supplementation can improve measures of sleep, reduce appetite, and enhance quality of life,” said Hector Lopez, MD, CMO, and co-founder of CAHS.

Although to be transparent, there were no notable changes from the baseline tests with regards to kidney function, cardiovascular health, cholesterol or whole blood cell counts. This is both good and bad depending on if you’re a positive polly or negative nelly!

Pollys of the world: “No adverse effects!”

Nellys of the world: “No other positive impacts!”

If you find yourself being a Nelly, try listening to Douglas MacKay’s, Senior Vice President of Scientific and Regulatory Affairs of CV Sciences, optimism:

“The Center for Applied Health Sciences collected additional data during the clinical trial, and we are looking forward to future analyses that explores how hemp CBD can create positive changes in human stress resilience, nervous system function, body composition, inflammation, as well as targeted gene expression.”

So what’s next?

As one of the first studies to test for the safety and efficacy of a hemp-derived, CBD-rich supplement in healthy humans, the cannabis community has a reason to keep hustling, researching and spreading the word. Our health and wellness depends on it!

“This study is an important contribution for all stakeholders, as it represents the first randomized clinical trial that we are aware of regarding the safety and efficacy of multi-constituent hemp CBD extract in healthy human subjects, and we hope it will serve as a template for further research into the many potential benefits of this fascinating compound,” said Lopez.
