CBD oil for cats is a thing, and I was curious about whether or not it would work for my cat with anxiety.
I’ll use the word ‘my’ cat lightly because Mr. Stripes was actually an outdoor cat who I took in after he was injured (don’t get in fights with a picket fence feline friends.)
I quickly found that cat anxiety is very real, as Mr. Stipes wasn’t too keen on being indoors. He would pace around, meow at the window, spray our couch, and just seem super unhappy.
So, I asked my Instagram community about CBD oil for cats, and if any of them ever used pet CBD oil to treat their furry friends.

I was pretty surprised to find that CBD for pets was a hot topic and that tons of people were using CBD cat treats and tinctures to help calm cat anxiety.
Here’s what they had to say about using CBD for their pets, and which products and dosage they recommended.
1. CBD for cat anxiety & the kitty flu
I have given my cats CBD for numerous reasons with the help from my vet. My one cat suffers with anxiety in his day to day life (he’s a rescue.) I give him a dose in the morning and at night and he is very healthy and energized.
When he was sick with the kitty flu we also treated him with CBD oil and that got him back to health within three days. I’m a firm believer in CBD use for pets. I recommend it all the time to some of my grooming clients, works very well for dogs with grooming related anxiety.
2. CBD oil for vet anxiety
I give my cats CBD oil to take them to the vet! it works really well for them because it calms their fear but doesn’t make them lethargic or seem “out of it.” They’re still 100% coherent, but just calm!
I use the same tincture I use on myself (it’s a coconut oil base) but I dose it much, much smaller. I use Green Roads CBD and about 10 mg for a 12 pound cat and adjust depending on the weight & level of anxiety they usually have.

3. For a skittish kitty
Everyday! She loves it! She is very skittish and it’s helped her be more social. I use Canna-Pet Max Hemp! And two drops every morning (.1ml)
4. For a cat with cancer
I give one of my cats CBD as an anti-inflammatory and appetite stimulation as he has intestinal cancer. I use Humble Roots Medicinals Pet CBD. I take his daily dose and drop it onto two small treats which he eagerly gobbles up.
5. An all around fan of CBD for pets
CBD is great for most pets, just make sure there is absolutely no THC. Gron CBD makes a great pet oil.
6. For cat mommas who want to get the dosage right
I get mine from Select Pets. There’s a diagram of how much of the dropper you use on the side of the box it comes in.

7. For the anxious baby
I have!! I give my anxious little baby Dank Flavors pet CBD & she loves it!
8. CBD for a stressed out fur baby
My kitty has constant anxiety and gets stressed out easily. I give her HolistaPet CBD to calm her down. I also use CBD before trimming her nails to mellow her out.
Honestly, I was pretty nervous about giving CBD oil to my cat because I didn’t feel like I knew enough, and was worried that I could hurt him.
But, getting this kind of positive feedback from my IG community really helped ease my worry.
The vet had recommended that I give him Gabapentin, a cat sedative, to help calm him down, but I could tell that it hurt his belly and made him really lethargic.
Plus, who wants to dope up their furry friend every night? I felt really bad about it.
After speaking to a vet tech about the option of CBD oil for my cat’s anxiety, she agreed that it was another great option.
And, she even told me that she used CBD oil for her own cats! That was very encouraging.
I haven’t started the CBD oil regime for Mr. Stripes yet, but when I do, I’ll share my results!
