Since moving to a legal state, I’ve made it a priority to find the right dose and form of cannabis for me.
The amount of cannabis products on the market is mind-boggling, but when you know what to look for, it’s like sorting the name-brand candy from the generic stuff in a Halloween stash.
Edibles haven’t always been the most approachable way to consume cannabis.
The thought of getting too high steers a lot of people away, or possibly it’s the lack of control that makes them nervous.
Although many of us probably have a regretful story about an edible gone wrong, most of the time, feeling uncomfortably high is a one-time thing. After it happens, you get smart about milligrams and microdosing.
Until recently I only incorporated edibles into my nighttime routine, but after trying Delta 8 gummies, I finally found the functional high I’ve been looking for.
My experience with Gummy Joy Delta 8 Gummies
I’d heard of Delta 8 before trying Gummy Joy’s gummies, so going in, I knew they wouldn’t be as potent as traditional THC edibles.
My job involves sitting in front of a computer, tons of research, and laser-focused concentration. Having a clear head is an important part of a writer’s job—that’s why I usually save the THC edibles for after hours.
But Gummy Joy’s 25mg Delta 8 gummies helped me through a particularly stressful day on the job.
After breakfast, I took one gummy and settled into work. To get the whole effect, I skipped coffee so the caffeine didn’t overlap with the Delta 8. The orange-flavored gummy was the perfect accompaniment to my morning OJ.
Forty-five minutes later, I felt a warm tingle settle over my body, almost like stepping into the sun from the shadows.
My work pace didn’t slow down and I wasn’t distracted with high thoughts. Suddenly I got into a euphoric groove without having to try so hard to stay motivated.
The whole experience was surprisingly educational. Not only did I finish my work but I wasn’t groggy when the Delta 8 started to wear off.
Having a high “hangover” is one disadvantage of THC, but Delta 8 showed me another way: productive, high, and emotionally balanced, all at the same time.
What is Delta 8?
Delta 8 is a minor cannabinoid (therapeutic compound) found in cannabis. You can think of Delta 8 as THC’s fraternal twin—alike, but different in its own right.
As a twin myself, I know all too well about comparing two things that come from the same place. You might be wondering how Delta-8 gets you high without making you too high.
Even though it’s chemically similar to regular THC, Delta 8 has a special effect on the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) due to a bond on the eighth carbon chain. That’s a lot of geek speak, but don’t let me lose you just yet.
THC (aka Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) is what people generally associate with being “stoned.” Cannabinoids, like THC, CBD, and Delta 8, interact with the ECS.
When we use cannabis, the cannabinoids activate receptors in the brain and skin, which can make us calm, sleepy, horny, talkative, and blissed out.
What do Delta 8 gummies do?
Scientists speculate that Delta 8 isn’t as psychoactive as regular THC because the eight carbon bond doesn’t bind as strongly to receptors in the ECS.
Comparing the effects of Gummy Joy’s Delta 8 gummies to full-strength THC isn’t as cut and dry as saying they’re half as potent. Everyone’s high is different, but for me, Delta 8 leans closer to CBD (cannabidiol).
I was less prone to laziness and wandering thoughts with Delta 8. The 25mg dose I took for work helped me do what I usually do, but I wasn’t as stressed and stuck in my perfectionist ways. Delta 8 eased me into an effortlessly peaceful mindset.
Do Delta 8 gummies get you high?
I’d definitely say I was high, but nowhere near as zapped out as regular THC. Edibles are tricky, though, because they have to metabolize in the liver before entering the bloodstream. Like your standard pot brownie, Delta 8 takes time to work.
For this reason, be mindful of how much Delta 8 you take. 25mg was a good dose for me while I was working, and to be clear, I did get high. I have a decent tolerance, though, so 15mg might be better for first-timers.
How long does it take for a Delta 8 gummy to kick in?
Delta 8 gummies take about forty-five minutes to an hour to go into effect. I never eat edibles on an empty stomach.
Otherwise, they make my stomach churn, but everyone metabolizes Delta 8 gummies differently based on age and weight.
Remember to be patient after taking Delta 8 and give it time to activate.
To sum it up
Delta 8, an option I was surprised to learn about, helped me feel confident about incorporating cannabis into my daytime schedule.
Gummy Joy’s edibles empowered me to not be passive to my anxiety. They may even change the way you feel about the weekday.
